II. Education outside a University Framework

IKU has entered international PhD education by participating in the PRIME Network of Excellence.
As a network member organisation, IKU participates in the programmes and organisation of the PRIME PhD Summer Seminars, as well as in the mobility scheme for PhD students. In 2007, it organised the annual PRIME PhD conference.

PRIME 1st PhD Summer SchoolPRIME 1st PhD Summer School
The PhD Summer University of the PRIME Network of Excellence was first held between 5 and 9 June 2004 in Madrid, jointed hosted by the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Complutense University of Madrid. The title was ?Towards an enlarged European Research Area: Challenges for Internationalisation of Innovation Systems of Southern, Central and Eastern European countries? and students representing 14 Central Eastern European, Southern European and overseas countries were involved.


PRIME 2nd PhD Summer SchoolPRIME 2nd PhD Summer School
The second PhD Summer University of the PRIME Network of Excellence was organised by IKU in Budapest between 4 and 8 July 2005. The title was ?Policies for Knowledge based economies in the enlarged EU: Challenges for the Research and Innovation Systems of Southern, Central and Eastern European Countries? and there were participants from 15 Central Eastern European, Southern European and overseas countries.

 

 

 

2 participants from IKU were present at each of these two events, and furthermore, one of the PhD students from IKU was granted a 6-month scholarship with the PREST research group at the University of Manchester. 2 young researchers also took part in the Summer Seminar entitled ?Advanced Quantitative Methods for Productivity and Efficiency Analysis? between 10 and 14 July 2006. 4th PRIME Doctoral Conference
In 2007, the annual PhD conference of PRIME was organised by IKU between 21 and 23 June. The theme of the conference was ?Global Challenges to R&D and Innovation Policy?, and 19 European and overseas PhD students had the opportunity to present and discuss their own research with each other and with the lecturers. IKU regularly took on scholars with grants from NATO Internships in Science Policy between 2002 and 2004:

  • Dr. Tigran Arzumanyan (Armenia): Research topic "Principles and reform of S&T and innovation policies"

    (September-December 2004)
  • Dr. Natalia Percinschi (Moldova): Research topic "Experience of innovation activities and technological transfer in Hungary and future possibilities for their implementation in Moldova"
    (January-March 2003)
  • Dr. Igor Yegorov (Ukrajna): (Ukraine): Topic "Analysis of R&D transformation system in CEECs and lessons from Hungarian experience for Ukraine"
    (April-July 2002)
  • Dr. Nodar Pkhaladze (Georgia): Topic "Innovation activity promotion for Georgian Industry"
    (June-July 2002).

Financed by the NATO Advanced Training Courses in Science Policy programme in 2001-2004, the following seminars were organised jointly by IKU and the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science):
